Beech descendants visit Sichuan University

On March 24, 2015, Thomas Foster Beech, the descendant of the founder of the former West China Union University, led a delegation to visit Sichuan University (SCU). Prof. Li Hong, managing vice president of SCU accepted the delegation at Huaxi campus. Officers of relevant departments and colleges attended the meeting.

Prof. Li Hong highlighted the reform and development of West China Medicine Science of SCU in recent years. He remarked, “West China Medicine Science lasting over a century has made a great contribution to Chinese medicine development and medical talent cultivation; Dr. Beech, as the main founder of the former West China Union University, would be comforted at its current development if he could witness it; in reviewing the history of West China College, we deeply miss the predecessors like Mr. Beech who made outstanding contributions to the development of West China Medicine Science, and you are welcome to return here in memory of the predecessors and the history created by them.”

The delegation representative expressed their appreciation for SCU’s warm reception, and said that, as the descendants of Mr. Beech, who worked and lived here over 100 years ago, they feel at home when returning to Chengdu and to Huaxiba. And they also expressed their best wishes to West China College and SCU.

Later, the delegation presented the key of the former office in which Mr. Beech worked and relevant historic image data to SCU.

After the meeting, the delegation visited West China Medical Exhibition Hall and Huaxi campus.
