The Pancreatic Surgery Department of West China Hospital, Sichuan University is a national key discipline and a key discipline of the Ministry of Health. The Diagnosis and treatment scope of Pancreatic Surgery Department includes the treatment of pancreatic tumors and inflammatory diseases, duodenal, biliary tract, spleen tumors and inflammatory diseases, as well as the surgical treatment of retroperitoneal tumors and other related diseases.
There are 72 beds in the Pancreatic Surgery Department (52 in the headquarter and 20 in the branch). There are 21 doctors, including 7 professors and 5 associate professors. Among them, there are 3 doctoral tutors, 7 master tutors, and many doctors have studied or studied in famous universities in the United States, Japan, Switzerland, and Germany. There are 35 nursing staff, including 5 supervising nurses and 25 nurses.
Under the specialty leadership of Professor Liu Xubao, Pancreatic Surgery has been committed to improving the postoperative survival of pancreatic malignant tumors. Through the expansion of pancreatic cancer resection, combined organ resection, combined vascular resection and reconstruction of difficult surgical procedures to continuously improve our center pancreas The R0 resection rate of cancer has won a better prognosis for patients. Our center is also actively promoting comprehensive treatment of pancreatic cancer and standardized postoperative treatment, including the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in border resectable pancreatic cancer followed by surgical treatment. The treatment concept and methods have enabled our center to maintain domestic leadership in the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer. The overall 5-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer patients admitted to our department in the past 10 years has reached 20%. At the same time, our center has accumulated rich experience in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis, and has proposed new concepts such as integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment, timing of surgery, and new methods of surgery. It has become a standard for diagnosis and treatment in the same industry and will treat severe acute pancreas. The success rate of treatment of inflammation has increased to more than 80%, reaching the international leading level. In the field of surgical treatment of chronic pancreatitis, it is the first in China to carry out new operations such as pancreatic head resection, uncinate process resection, and spleen pancreatic body and tail resection. It is the author of the treatment guidelines issued by the Chinese Surgery Society. At the same time, our department is also one of the few pancreas transplant centers in the country. It has successfully carried out pancreas-kidney transplantation, which can obtain new life for patients with advanced diabetes. In terms of benign pancreatic diseases, actively carry out laparoscopic-based minimally invasive surgery and precise organ removal for the purpose of organ preservation, which alleviates the pain of patients, shortens the length of hospital stay, and greatly improves the quality of life of patients after surgery.
The average annual outpatient number of Pancreatic Surgery is about 42,000 patient per year, and the operation is about 3,700 per year, of which about 500 operations are for pancreaticoduodenectomy, and about 300 are for severe acute pancreatitis. The number of these 2 iconic pancreatic operations performed in the department is among the largest in the country. Our department has actively promoted clinical scientific research with abundant patient admission resources, and established a pancreatic cancer follow-up database and a pancreatic cancer specimen database. In the past 5 years, it has included nearly 1,000 tumor specimens annually, laying a solid foundation for the stable and standardized development of clinical scientific research. The Department won 1 first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, 1 third prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Medical Association, 2 first prizes of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Achievement Award, 4 third prizes of Chengdu Science and Technology Progress Achievement Award, and 2 Chengdu Science and Technology Progress Achievement Awards. Editor-in-chief monographs from the Department includes: "Key Points of Abdominal Surgery and Perioperative Treatment", "Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine", "Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Splenic Surgery and Perioperative Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine", "Laparoscopic Pancreatic Surgery". The Department has gained 7 patents, published 294 professional papers(about 30 papers are published every year), including more than 200 SCI, the highest impact factor is 8.98 (Annual of Surgery) There are about 60 national, provincial, ministerial and school scientific research projects, including 6 NSFC projects (3 general projects, 3 youth projects), 47 provincial and ministerial projects, more than 12 million yuan in scientific research (2.04 million in NSFC): 1.46 million yuan for general projects , 580,000 yuan for youth projects; more than 9 million yuan for the provincial and ministerial level programs).
Pancreatic Surgery undertakes the teaching and clinical skills training for students of doctoral degree, master degree, eight-year, seven-year and five-year clinical medicine, international students and nursing majors. Currently, there are 6 doctoral students and 10 master students. At the same time undertook the national continuing education project and domestic and foreign medical care support work.
