Online meeting with UPMC

Recently, West China Hospital (WCH) and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) held a bilateral high-level online meeting. Professor Bruno Gridelli, President of UPMC Italy, Mr. Jeffrey Berstein, President of UPMC China, and Prof. Cheng Nansheng, Vice President of WCH attended the meeting. Representatives of related departments and functional departments such as the Organ Transplant Center, Emergency Department, School of Nursing, and International Office of WCH attended the meeting.


Vice President Cheng Nansheng pointed out that the current cooperation between the two parties has been carried out in an orderly manner in many fields, especially the online education project has achieved milestone results; meanwhile, the two sides insisted on promoting exchanges and cooperation in various forms during the difficult period of the Covid 19 pandemic. He said that the more difficult it is, the more cooperation should be deepened and strengthened, so as to better interpret the meaning of building a community with a shared future for mankind. West China Hospital has always been open to cooperation with UPMC. Both parties should strive to build a long-term, comprehensive and stable cooperation mechanism based on past cooperation.

Professor Gridelli introduced that UPMC has extensive experience in organ transplantation, immune system diseases, neurosurgery, cancer and other fields. With the support of UPMC's headquarters in the US, UPMC Rome Hospital has achieved great success in its international medical business in Italy. UPMC will also uphold an open attitude of cooperation and promote more in-depth cooperation with WCH.

During the academic exchange session, experts from the Organ Transplant Center, Emergency Department, and School of Nursing of WCH discussed potential areas and possible ways of cooperation. At the end of the meeting, Vice Dean Cheng Nansheng extended an invitation to Professor Gridelli to visit WCH again. The two parties agreed to conduct mutual visits and exchanges to further consolidate and implement bilateral cooperation.
