From Nov. 18 to 21, the 2021 West China-Mayo International Conference on Critical Care Medicine was held online. The expert team from Mayo Clinic, famous European critical care experts, and top critical care experts from the Chinese Society of Critical Care Medicine, Chinese Medical Association, Critical Care Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and other institutions attended the meeting and gave 229 lectures. The total live broadcasting time exceeded 120 hours, with a cumulative audience of over 140,000.
At the opening ceremony, President Li Weimin, chairman of the conference, Professor Kang Yan, president of West China Tianfu Hospital, and Professor Daniel R. Brown, co-chairman of the conference and director of Mayo Clinic’s Multidisciplinary Collaboration Center for Critical Care Medicine, delivered speeches respectively, stressing that critical care medicine has become a complete discipline system, and COVID-19 pandemic has spurred the rapid development of critical care from basic research to clinical research, from concept to decision-making scheme.
Focusing on interdisciplinary exchanges at home and abroad, the conference was divided into two plenary meetings, 17 sessions and one hotspot forum. Experts analyzed the current situation of critical medicine, and put forward the future development direction in regard to the perspective of guidelines interpretation, artificial intelligence, medical engineering integration, informationization, treatment platform, professional multidisciplinary team, and talent training.
