On January 27, 2022, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine officially launched the research work of “Evaluating the Role of TCM in the Treatment of COVID-19” initiated by the WHO. At the beginning of February, the drafting group of evidence-based research from the Department of TCM Treatment of COVID-19 was formally established. Professor Sun Xin was appointed as the group leader, and a team was quickly organized to scientifically evaluate and summarize the clinical evidence of TCM treatment, thus finalizing an evidence-based research report on TCM treatment of COVID-19. From February 28 to March 2, the WHO Expert Panel consisting of 21 international experts from WHO’s six regions held an evaluation meeting on TCM Treatment for COVID-19. At the meeting, Professor Sun Xin, on behalf of the drafting group, gave a special report and conducted in-depth exchanges with WHO experts, successfully achieving the expected goals and showing excellent scientific accomplishment and academic level.

In recent years, Professor Sun Xin’s team carried out a series of in-depth clinical research, evaluation and transformation of integrated TCM and western medicine. By innovatively developing theoretical methods and key technologies of TCM, they created a system of rapid synthesis of clinical evidence and transformation of clinical guidelines of TCM based on MAGIC, which has been successfully applied in such sectors as perinatal, severe, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, bone and joint diseases.
