On the morning of July 1st, the 2024 International Summer Camp of West China School of Medicine (WCSM) commenced in the multifunctional hall of Houde Building. The camp consists of 31 students from 9 foreign institutions in 8 countries, including Russia, Canada, Singapore, and Spain, along with 63 Chinese and international students from WCSM. The opening ceremony was attended by WCSM President Luo Fengming, Vice Party Secretary Shen Wenwu, Vice President Wang Kunjie, and representatives from relevant departments.

President Luo Fengming extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students who traveled from afar and briefly introduced this year's activities of the International Summer Camp. He encouraged faculty and students to engage in close exchanges and mutual learning with friends from around the world, to experience the academic heritage and medical culture of WCSM, and to explore the latest developments and cutting-edge trends in the medical field. He wished everyone a rewarding experience in terms of knowledge, friendship, and happiness at the Camp.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Director Yang Xiaomin from the Academic Affairs Office of Sichuan University reviewed the history of the university's International Course Week, introduced the format of the event, and affirmed the achievements of WCSM in international education.

Professor David Fernig, a foreign professor representative from the University of Liverpool in the UK, suggested in his speech that students take full advantage of the exchange opportunities to share experiences and insights, stimulate innovative thinking, and broaden their horizons.

Chinese and international student representatives spoke, expressing their expectations for the International Summer Camp, looking forward to mutual understanding, learning, and growth within the camp's international and diverse environment.

Finally, Vice Party Secretary Shen Wenwu, Vice President Wang Kunjie, Dean Li Ka of the School of Nursing, and Executive Dean Li Zhenlin of the School of Medical Technology presented the camp uniforms to student representatives. President Luo Fengming presented the camp flag to the student representatives, officially launching the 2024 International Summer Camp.

As an important part of Sichuan University's "Practice and International Course Week" series of activities, the International Summer Camp of WCSM has been successfully held for 12 consecutive years. This year, the number of participating countries, institutions, and overseas students has reached a historical high. In the next two weeks, Chinese and international students will participate together in clinical skills competitions, simulated international academic conferences, cultural visits, and clinical internships. The International Summer Camp aims to build a platform for communication and exchange between Chinese and foreign medical students, strengthen international exchanges in the field of clinical medical education, enrich students' summer life, and broaden their international perspective.
