On 13–14 November, West China Hospital held the Thoracic APAC Master’s Program. Eight thoracic surgeons from Belt-and-Road countries—including Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam—and from China’s Taiwan region attended the course. The training centered on “Single-Direction Thoracoscopic Lobectomy,” the technique pioneered by Prof. Liu Lunxu of our Department of Thoracic Surgery, whose team led the entire program of live surgery, lectures and interactive discussions.

Participants observed complete thoracoscopic lobectomy and segmentectomy demonstrations performed by Prof. Liu Lunxu, Prof. Pu Qiang and Prof. Mei Jiandong. Inside the OR, the faculty highlighted the critical steps of the single-direction approach; trainees praised the faculty’s steady maneuvers and clear reasoning while dissecting the hilum, freeing vessels and performing lymph-node dissection.
In the didactic sessions, the thoracic team delivered targeted talks on key topics. Video cases presented by surgeons from Thailand and Malaysia sparked multidimensional debate on surgical strategy. Delegates also practiced in the simulation center, joined ward rounds and held in-depth exchanges with nursing staff.
At the closing ceremony, Prof. Liu Lunxu awarded completion certificates. Participants agreed that single-direction thoracoscopic lung surgery is a mature, efficient and safe concept worthy of wider adoption. The master class was more than a technical transfer; it embodied the cooperative spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative and created a platform for continued exchange and mutual progress.
