Delegation from NUH visits WCH, signs MOU to deepen doctor training collaboration

On April 2, a delegation led by Professor Mark Puhaindran, Chairman of the Medical Board of the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore, visited West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Vice President Wu Hong attended the meeting and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the hospital. Representatives from the Liver Transplant Center, Gastric Cancer Center, International Office, Medical Affairs Department, and other departments participated in the discussions.

Vice President Wu Hong extended a warm welcome to Professor Mark Puhaindran and his delegation on behalf of the hospital. He noted that WCH holds significant advantages in the diagnosis and treatment of complex and critical illnesses as well as clinical research, and is currently making every effort to enhance the new quality productive forces in healthcare. He expressed hope that the signing of the MOU would serve as a new starting point to not only consolidate cooperation in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases but also to further expand in-depth multidisciplinary collaboration in orthopedics, gastric cancer, and other specialties. This, he added, would promote collaborative innovation and joint development in clinical techniques, scientific research, and talent exchange, ultimately better serving patients.

Professor Mark Puhaindran highly commended our hospital's outstanding capabilities and dedication in the treatment of complex and critical illnesses, medical services, and medical innovation. He emphasized that NUH places great importance on its partnership with our hospital, noting that both sides have complementary strengths and broad prospects for cooperation. He looked forward to using the MOU as a framework to deepen practical collaboration across various fields, achieving mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

During the exchange, both sides discussed topics such as hospital refinement management, multi-center clinical research, specialized talent training, and the development of specialty disease centers. They also clarified future directions for cooperation and mechanisms for implementation. Following the meeting, the delegation toured our the Clinical Skills Training Center and the Liver Transplant Center ward, gaining firsthand insight into our medical service capabilities and disciplinary development.

Subsequently, the delegation visited the Orthopedics Department for academic exchanges, including departmental presentations, case discussions, and facility tours. These activities further enhanced mutual understanding of each other’s disciplinary progress and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration.

In line with the MOU and consensus reached during the meeting, WCH will continue to host NUH doctors for training and exchange programs. At the same time, both sides will actively work to establish a regular exchange mechanism, jointly organize management and disciplinary thematic meetings, and promote two-way interaction in medical administration and clinical specialties. Gradual in-depth collaboration will be carried out in key disciplines such as hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, gastric cancer, and orthopedics, with joint efforts in clinical research and technological innovation, to collectively enhance the level of medical services and medical research.
