WCH rehabilitation medicine team presents at 2026 world congress on osteoarthritis

The 2026 World Congress on Osteoarthritis, organized by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI), was recently held in Florida, USA. As one of the most influential annual academic events in the global osteoarthritis field, the congress brought together more than 1,000 researchers from around the world. Associate Professor Zhu Siyi from the Rehabilitation Medicine Center at West China Hospital, Sichuan University (WCH), attended the congress and presented the center's research findings. This marked the third time the WCH rehabilitation team has participated in the OARSI annual congress in person, following their attendance in 2018 and 2019.

The congress featured in-depth discussions on the latest research advances and trends in osteoarthritis, including basic research, clinical translation, rehabilitation interventions, and disease prevention. Activities included OARSI board and committee meetings, symposia, oral presentations, poster sessions, and academic debates. Associate Professor Zhu served as a member of the Congress Organizing Committee and the Communications and Collaborations Committee. In these roles, he participated in key tasks such as abstract selection, peer review, and mentorship of early-career researchers, demonstrating deep engagement with the international academic governance system.

During the academic forum, Associate Professor Zhu was invited to deliver an annual review presentation titled "2025 Osteoarthritis: Rehabilitation and Outcomes" in the main session. He systematically summarized major advances in rehabilitation medicine over the past year and provided a forward-looking perspective on future research directions. This presentation further enhanced the international academic influence of WCH rehabilitation in the field of osteoarthritis rehabilitation. In addition, he moderated a session on novel therapies for osteoarthritis, participated in the annual meeting of the Rehabilitation Special Interest Group, engaged in guideline development discussions, and took part in poster exchanges. These activities enabled multidimensional academic dialogue with global experts. He also actively contributed suggestions during the organizing committee's working meeting for the preparation of the next OARSI congress in Barcelona.
