Governor General of Australia Quentin Bryce visits WCH

On Oct. 22, 2014, Her Excellency Madam Quentin Bryce, Governor General of Australia, paid an official visit to Sichuan University and heard the report on “West China Hospital SCU—— Australian Cochlear Implant Project” at West China Hospital. Prof. Li Hong, Vice Executive President of Sichuan University greeted her at the VIP meeting room of administration building on West China Campus. Prof. Jing Jing, Director of West China Hospital, Prof. Gong Qiyong, Vice President of West China Hospital and directors from ENT department attended the meeting. 

VEP Prof. Li Hong extended his warm welcome to Governor General’s visit, briefing the overall introduction to Sichuan University, especially the remarkable development of West China Medical Center in recent years. He hoped this visit could be an impetus for more medical cooperation in the future, like West China Hospital – Australian Cochlear Implant joint project, so as to bring welfare for human beings. 

Governor General of Australia extended her thanks for the hospitality and the happiness to be here, congratulated what we achieved in the past decades. She said, in today’s world, extensive cooperation among different countries are key to education and science development across the globe. She hoped that China and Australia could join hands to bring about more significant fruit for the welfare of human beings.

After the meeting, Governor General took a close look at cochlear devices and the mapping procedures demonstrated by Prof. Zheng Yun and Dr. Tao Yong. Then, she listened to the report on Cochlear Implantation at West China Hospital and enjoyed the performance by three kids recovered after Cochlear Implant surgery. In closing, touched by our efforts and commitment to helping patients’ hearing recovery, Governor General said with full passion, “Today, I feel delighted on what both Chinese and Australian people did for the sake of patients. Thank you all for giving me such an unforgettable afternoon.”
