On the afternoon of July 2nd, Prof. Robert Peter Gale, editor in chief of Leukemia and former chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of CIBMTR, visited the Hematology Department of our hospital. Some medical experts, professors and staff members from some relevant departments and the State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy of our hospital, as well as from the hematology departments of a few hospitals in Sichuan province, attended the exchange.
Prof. Robert Peter Gale gave a speech titled Who with AML Should Have a Transplant in 1st Remission?Are MRD and Mutation Analyses the Answer?Based on his rich clinical and scientific research experience, he explained practical issues involving the selection of donor for transplantation, collection of hematopoietic cells, preparative regimen and selection of the time for hemopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Also, Prof. Robert Peter Gale took the important indicator MRD as an example to demonstrate that different detection methods would lead to diverse results. He hoped that clinicians could keep studying to strike a balance for transplantation, thus solving specific problems where applicable.
Finally, Prof. Gale provided guidance and comments on two intractable cases, and discussed with the attending experts on relevant issues.
