On June 13th, Prof. Mark Middleton, Director of Oncology Center of Oxford University, and David Kerr, Academician of Royal College of Physicians of the UK, visited WCH. Li Weimin, President of WCH, met with guests in the meeting room 2 of Water Tower Building. Wan Xuehong, Executive Vice President, along with leaders from the Department of Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Abdominal Oncology, Radiology, Pathology and International Office joined the meeting.
Mr. Li Weimin welcomed Director Mark Middleton and his team. After brief introduction of the basic situation of WCH, Director Li said that tumor research has always been the focus of scientific research in WCH, adding that "Sichuan University-Oxford University Gastrointestinal Tumor Center" is Oxford's first cancer research center in China. We hope to make more innovative achievements in the research and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors through mutual cooperation, promote the development of the world's medical services and deepen the cultural and sci-tech exchanges between China and the UK, he noted.
Prof. Mark Middleton briefly introduced the Medical Department and Oncology Center of Oxford University, noting that Oxford University has a strong global presence in biomedicine, particularly in cancer research. He hoped that the two sides could make more progress in medical research through the Sichuan University-Oxford University Gastrointestinal Cancer Center.
The two sides discussed and exchanged in details on the construction of "Sichuan University-Oxford University Gastrointestinal Cancer Center".
The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Biological Therapy, Gastroenterology Department and Digestive Endoscopy Center of Sichuan University. Both sides’ researchers discussed about several research cooperation projects and achieved preliminary results.
