On June 5th, Prof. Gerardo Guillen, Medical Research Director of the Cuba Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology & Academician of Cuba Academy of Science, Prof. Jorge Berlanga Acosta, member of the Council of State of Cuba and Academician of Cuba Academy of Science and Michele Valdes Sosa, Director of the Neuroscience Center, Cuba, visited West China Hospital. Wan Xuehong, Executive Vice President of WCH, met with the guests in the meeting room 9 of the administration building. Leaders and staff from the Department of Liver Surgery General Surgery Department, Neurology Disease Research Laboratory, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, Abdominal Oncology Department and the International Office attended the meeting.

Executive Vice President Wan Xuehong welcomed the revisit of the delegation led by Prof. Guillen, and briefly introduced the history, discipline development, clinical services, medical education, scientific research achievements and the status of international exchanges. He said, West China Hospital is always open to international cooperation, in a hope to start cooperation on specific feasible projects based on preliminary intention of cooperation.

The clinical experts of WCH introduced their current achievements of departments. Prof. Guillen's team elaborated potential cooperation projects in the aspects of neuroprotection, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization of chronic hepatitis B liver cancer, and immunotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma, and then answered questions on preparations for the collaboration.

After the meeting, Prof. Gerardo Guillen and his team visited the scientific research base of WCH, Tianfu Life Science Park and other research facilities.
