West China Hospital operated, as a test run, its “CT imaging AI screening and auxiliary diagnosis system for multiple lung lesions " on March 13. The test run was proved a success. The system could swiftly and efficiently analyze the chest CT images of patients and find imaging signs of "pulmonary nodules, lung cancer, tuberculosis, viral pneumonia, and bacterial pneumonia ", etc.
Drawing upon the “big data research platform of disease epidemiology ", SCU West China Hospital joined hands with Novuseeds Medtech and developed this system within 30 days. Under the leadership of West China Biomedical Big Data Center, the project has pooled the research resources of nearly 20 medical institutions. Being based on the AI deep learning technology, the data comes from the clinically confirmed cases, and West China Hospital radiologists select and annotate the data. The development of this system has received strong support from Sichuan Provincial Health Committee, Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Sichuan Province Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Moreover, this system can provide both on-site diagnosis in medical institutions and remote diagnosis from a far distance through cloud technology. The system is also able to analyze patients’ chest CT images synchronously, and identify presumptive lesions within seconds, which saves a lot of time for clinical diagnosis. In the meantime, it can make quantitative analysis and comparison of the chest CT features of patients in different periods, and help doctors to predict the disease progress.
In the future, it will be of great significance for the rapid diagnosis of lung CT images in medical institutions and the quick screening of daily lung CT images by disease control departments to find diseases endangering public health and safety at the first time.
