Prof. Lv Su of the Radiology Department wins Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award

On November 25, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation sent a letter of congratulation to Prof. Lv Su of the Radiology Department, WCH, for his being awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award is an important research award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which is awarded to the winners nominated by a senior German professor, and recommended by a couple of international experts after strict selection by a panel of experts from different countries as per the appraisal procedures of the Foundation. The winners are not restricted by their nationalities and research fields; and only 20 to 25 scholars will be awarded annually. In the field of medicine, a total of six professors from world-known universities such as Harvard University have won such award over the past five years. These winners are top-notch scholars with outstanding academic achievements and international reputation in their respective research fields. The awards mark their academic achievements and spur them to produce new creative results. The Foundation will also invite the winners to conduct international research cooperation in Germany for six months to one year.

Prof. Lv Su is the first Chinese researcher winning such award in the medical field. He has been long engaged in the research on the imageology of significant mental diseases, and is one of initiators of the concept--Psychoradiology. He has obtained innovative achievements in the representation of schizophrenia images, which have provided important evidences for the exploration of the mechanism of schizophrenia and the precision treatment, and boosted the clinical application of the Psychoradiology examination for mental patients. Winning the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award represents a recognition of international peers for our research results on Psychoradiology, injecting impetus to high-level in-depth cooperation in frontier interdisciplinary sciences including Psychoradiology.

Meanwhile, under the guidance of Prof. Lv, Dr. Xiao Yuan, a young physician with the Radiology Department of the Hospital, also got the subsidies from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2019, becoming one of the “Alexander von Humboldt Fellows.” She will go to Germany for post-doctoral exchange and cooperation in 2020.
