Professor Peng Bing’s team performs tele-operation demonstration for IRCAD Laparoscopic Surgery Training Center


From Nov. 26th 2019, the pancreatic surgery training meeting was hosted by IRCAD and IRCAD/AITS in Taiwan, China, which was attended by 14 professors and 40 students from France, Italy, Canada, Japan, and Saudi Arab, etc. Prof. Peng Bing’s surgical team of West China Hospital performed a tele-operation of pancreaticoduodenectomy by means of laparoscope, and gave relevant themed lectures.

On the November 26th and 27th, the pancreatic surgery training meeting of IRCAD/AITS was hosted by in Taiwan, China, which invited fourteen professors of pancreatic surgery and forty surgeons received training from France, Italy, Canada, Japan, and Saudi Arab, etc. Professor Bing Peng’s surgical team of West China Hospital performed a telesurgery of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy , and Professor Bing Peng made a speech of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy: Experiences from West China Hospital in the next day.


On the morning of November 26, the tele-operation of pancreaticoduodenectomy by means of laparoscope was conducted at the Shangjin Operating Room. With the support and collaboration from Wang Rurong’ team with the Anesthesia Center and Le Gaohui’s team with the Operating Room, this operation took only 2.5 hours with clean anatomy and clear views. The team’s operating techniques, close collaboration and standard operating concept had been highly commended by the attending professors and students. Meanwhile, the operation was broadcast live, allowing for synchronous exchange in both Mandarin and English in a heated atmosphere.

In the morning of the November 26th, the telesurgery of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed in the operation room of West China Hospital, Chengdu. The operation was broadcast live, which was explained and narrated in English and Chinese. With the support and collaboration from the Anesthesia Center and the Operating Room, the operation was successful and just took 2.5 hours. The attending professors and the trainees spoke highly of the techniques, teamwork and surgical concepts of the surgical team. Through the online discussion, the atmosphere of the meeting was heated. As Dr. Shi from Taipei Veterans General Hospital, one of the professors said, this LPD was one of the best LPDs he had ever seen, the anatomy was clear, the process was reasonable, the technique was excellent and the idea was standard. 

On the afternoon of November 27, Prof. Peng Bing gave a tele- seminar titled Laparoscopic Pancreaticoduodenectomy——Experience from West China Hospital, introducing the progress and experience of WCH Liver, Gallbladder and Pancreas Minimally Invasive Surgery Center in respect of the laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery for the pancreas, as well as the achievements made by WCH in terms of pancreatic minimally invasive surgery.

In the afternoon of the November 27th, Professor Bing Peng made a speech of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy: Experiences from West China Hospital, he introduced the progress and experience of the HBP Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of West China Hospital, the achievements and techniques of the center and the future expectations of the pancreatic surgery.
