Recently, Prof. Wang Ziqiang’s team from the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, collaborating with the Day Surgery Ward, Day Surgery Center and West China Fourth Hospital conducted the three ambulatory laparoscopic radical colectomy for Colon Cancer firstly in China. All the patients recovered well after surgery.

This ambulatory laparoscopic radical colectomy showed the advancement of WCH in laparoscopic surgery, doctor-nurse integration and rapid perioperative recovery in colon cancer treatment. It contributes to optimizing the medical resource and reducing disease burdens.

After investigation and getting approval from the administration and the ethic committee, Prof. Wang Ziqiang’s team collaborating with other teams conducted the first ambulatory laparoscopic radical colectomy on Sept. 16, 2019. After that, two more patients had the same successful surgery by now. all the three patients took liquid diet after completely awaking from anesthesia, made early ambulation on the operating day; and then they were transferred to West China Fourth Hospital, which serve as Community Hospital, for the recovery. all the three patients were recovered smoothly and had the first oncological follow-up.

At present, patients will be transferred to the West China Fourth Hospital after day surgery under this model. Patients' home rehabilitation and community hospital rehabilitation treatment will be promoted later to further optimize the allocation of medical resources and reduce the burden of disease.
