On the evening of April 7, WCH (West China Hospital) held a high-level bilateral online meeting with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Professor Bruno Gridelli, President of UPMC Italy, Mr. Jeffrey Bernstein, President of UPMC China, and WCH’s Vice President Cheng Nansheng attended the meeting. Representatives from Transplantation Center, Emergency Department, School of Nursing and International Office joined in this event.
Vice President Cheng addressed the meeting, stating that current cooperation between the two sides has been promoted in many fields in an orderly manner; in particular, the online education project has made milestone results; also, the efforts of both sides on promoting exchanges and cooperation in various forms during the pandemic has set a good example for other international cooperation. The more difficult the situation was, the more we should deepen and strengthen mutual cooperation and better interpret the significance of building a community with shared future for mankind, he added. West China Hospital has always been open to cooperation with UPMC, so that both sides should jointly establish a long-term, comprehensive and stable cooperation mechanism.
Professor Gridelli spoke highly of WCH teams for their strong support to the cooperation between the two sides. He said that UPMC has rich experience in organ transplantation, immune system diseases, neurosurgery, cancer and other fields. Thanks to the support of UPMC’s US headquarter, UPMC’s Rome Hospital has made great success in its international medical business. UPMC will strive for further cooperation with WCH in an open-minded way.
During academic exchanges, experts from WCH’s Transplant Center, Emergency Department and School of Nursing discussed potential cooperation areas and methods with UPMC side. At last, Vice President Cheng sent an invitation to Professor Gridelli for visiting WCH again. The two parties agreed to conduct mutual visits and exchanges as soon as possible to further consolidate and implement bilateral cooperation.
