From Dec. 7 to 9, 2021, the WCH International Gastrointestinal Training Course under the BRI Health Professional Development Alliance was given online. Zhang Junhua, party secretary of the Talent Exchange Service Center of the National Health Commission, Professor Li Weimin, president of WCH, and experts from the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department, as well as 10 international gastrointestinal surgery trainees from countries and regions such as Malaysia and the Philippines, etc, and more than 20 Chinese trainees participated in the online training activity.
On Dec. 7, Professor Zhou Zongguang from the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department gave a special speech on “How Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Promotes Clinical Practice in China”, Professors Hu Jiankun, Wang Ziqiang, Yang Lie and Yang Kun delivered training speeches on “Laparoscopic Distal Gastric Cancer Lymph Node Dissection and Digestive Tract Reconstruction”, “Laparoscopic Rectal Cancer TME + Lateral Lymph Node Dissection”, “Introduction to the Discipline Construction of Gastrointestinal Surgery in West China Hospital” and “Basic Skills of Laparoscopic Surgery”, respectively. On Dec. 8, video analysis of minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery was conducted in the training course with a heated discussion for the international trainees. On Dec. 9, the international trainees watched surgical videos, and the instructors shared detailed comments and discussions.
As one of the first 7 gastrointestinal surgery training centers in China established the Minimally Invasive Surgery Branch of the “Belt and Road Initiative” Medical Talent Training Alliance of the National Health Commission, as well as the Laparoscopic Surgeon Training College of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, WCH has been actively promoting the construction of the laparoscopic surgery training system, and the training and development of laparoscopic technology in “Belt and Road Initiative” countries and regions.
