A delegation from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg visits WCH

On June 3, a delegation from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, led by Professor Andreas Maier, the director of the Pattern Recognition Laboratory, visited our hospital. Executive Vice President Wang Kunjie of the West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University, and representatives from relevant departments participated in the meeting.

Executive Vice President Wang Kunjie extended a sincere welcome to Professor Andreas Maier and his delegation. He mentioned that both sides have already laid a solid foundation for cooperation in multiple academic fields and expressed his hope for further in-depth collaboration in research and talent cultivation in the future. 

Professor Andreas Maier stated that he hoped this visit would provide an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge research and clinical practice achievements of our institute in various academic fields. He also expressed his desire to explore the potential for cooperation between the two parties in emerging interdisciplinary fields such as artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and precision medicine, thus opening a new chapter of cooperation.

After the meeting, Professor Andreas Maier delivered an engaging lecture titled "Bridging Domain Expertise with AI for Next-Generation Medical Diagnostics: Known Operators, AI Protocol Design, and Multimodal Foundations" in the Academic Hall on the third floor of Building No. 2. The lecture attracted over 100 faculty members and students. He elaborated on the application prospects of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field in a clear and accessible manner and demonstrated how these technologies can promote the intelligent development of medical diagnostics by combining practical case studies. This provided new ideas and inspiration for our institute's research in related fields.

Subsequently, the delegation also engaged in scientific research exchanges with several departmental teams of our institute, including Orthopedics, Radiology, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Oncology Radiotherapy, Biological Big Data Institute, Thoracic Surgery, And the Liver Transplantation Center. They sought opportunities for cooperation and explored new pathways for the integrated development of medicine and artificial intelligence across multiple disciplines.
