On March 4th, Prof. Gerardo Guillen, Director of Biomedical Research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and academician of Cuban Academy of Sciences, visited our hospital, accompanied by other guests including Prof. Pedro A. Valdes, Director of UESTC Cuba-China Collaboration Lab, honorary academician of the Cuba Academy of Sciences, and head of the joint project of the Global Brain Consortium. Prof. Wang Xuehong, Vice President of our hospital, hosted the meeting with the delegation; representatives of relevant departments such as the Neurosurgery Department, GCP Center, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, Scientific Research Base and the International Cooperation Office of our hospital joined the meeting.
After visiting the Scientific Research Base, Tianfu Life Science Park and the State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, Prof. Guillen and Prof. Valdes praised WCH's scientific research capability. Prof. Valdes introduced the latest progress of the 3C Plan carried out by China, Canada and Cuba. He hoped that China will be able to make some breakthroughs in the cooperative brain research. Prof. Guillen briefed the research highlights and results of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, in a hope to reach cooperation with WCH in the fields of cancer, cerebral ischemia, cerebral trauma, hepatic fibrosis, heart ischemia, stem cells and drug clinical test.
Executive Vice-director Wang Xuehong, on behalf of our hospital, extended welcome to the delegation led by Prof. Gerardo Guillen. Since its establishment, West China Hospital always adheres to the spirit of openness and cooperation, and has reached exchange and cooperation relationship with worldwide universities and research institutes, he said. As for the cooperative scope as proposed by the two professors, WCH will organize personnels to positively take part in these activities, so as to lay a solid foundation for further cooperation.
