Established in 2006, The Health Management Center of West China Hospital, SCU currently includes 2 parts (West China Hospital headquarter and Wenjiang branch) and 1 independent physical examination center named Wuhou Health Examination Center of West China Hospital. In addition, 2 sub-centers (Tianfu and Jingjiang) and several other independent physical examination centers are under construction. In 2014, the Center was awarded the National Flagship Unit of Demonstration Base for Health Management.
Talent cultivation: The Center has a 137 staff, of whom 8 with senior professional titles, 1 post-doctor, 8 with PhD degrees and 24 with master degrees. Over 30 postgraduate students and resident physicians have been cultivated under the supervision of 2 master tutors and 5 resident mentors. 75 staff have got Health Management Specialist Qualification Certificate. In the first Sichuan Top 10 Health Managers & Excellent Health Managers Skills Competition, the Center won 3 prizes including the first and the third medals and 6 staff were awarded top 10 health managers.
Medical services: The 2 parts of the Center totally cover an area of 6,100 square meters, providing physical examinations for about 600 people per day and 180,000 people per year. Wuhou Health Examination Center, with an area of 12,600 square meters, is designed for over 500 people’s physical examinations per day. Equipped with internationally advanced instruments and following the unified standard of West China Hospital, the Center is devoted to “professional, precise and accurate” services of health screening for the physical examinee. In addition to regular health lectures, it provides physical examination reports and health management suggestions of high quality through its specialist teams with rich clinical experience. The App "West China Health" developed by the Center, covers the whole process of health management including before, during and after the examination and optimizes the physical examination process, achieving satisfaction of 99%. The Center has been awarded the honor of “Excellent Medical Service Group” by West China Hospital, SCU for 4 consecutive years.
Scientific research and achievements: The Center has conducted a total of 30 projects at the state or the province level, with a total fund of more than 5 million yuan in the last five years, 2 of which were at state level. Up to date, it has published 184 academic papers, including 24 papers cited by SCI and 160 core journal papers and obtained 19 invention patents. The staff have served as editors-in-chief or co-author of 45 books. The first domestic Health Management Center Staff Manual edited by the Center in 2017 provided the health management industry with a professional and practical textbook-like manual integrating theory and practice together and it was awarded the second prize of outstanding sci-tech books in Western China. In addition, the Center has set up a platform of cohort study on health check-up population. Cooperating with the tertiary disciplines, the center has carried out several cohort studies of specific diseases. In 2016, the program for biological specimen bank of normal population was fully launched to provide specimen support to basic research on mass epidemiology and etiology.
Social responsibilities: West China Hospital, SCU implements the national medical reform policy and promotes the regional hierarchical medical treatment. Actively responding to the call of the state and the hospital, the Center always makes efforts in spreading high-quality medical resources to remote areas, offering supports and assistance to counterparts in both urban and rural areas and training of grass-roots backbone doctors, etc..
