From September 27th to 28th, The 2020 Huaxi of SCU – Oxford Forum on Gastrointestinal Cancer was held in Chengdu.
The conference not only invited famous academicians such as Prof. Fan Daiming, Prof. Wei Yuquan, and Prof. Li Zhaoshen, as well as famous domestic experts in the field of gastroenterology, such as digestive endoscopy, liver disease, but also invited experts from Oxford University and Cambridge University, Columbia University, and Showa University of Japan. Through the offline + online format, the conference jointly conducted a series of cross-regional thought collisions and academic exchanges on basic research, clinical diagnosis and treatment, translational medicine in the field of gastroenterology.
Prof. Cheng Nansheng, Vice President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, said that from historical origins, communication and teaching mode, West China Hospital of Sichuan University has always been in line with world-class medicine. The cooperation between Sichuan University and Oxford University to build a joint research center for gastrointestinal tumors is one of the epitomes of Sino-Western cooperation.
Prof. Li Yang, director of the Department of Gastroenterology of WCH, said that the establishment of the "Sichuan University-Oxford University Huaxi Gastrointestinal Cancer Center" focuses on gastrointestinal tumors which are with high morbidity and high mortality. The relevant clinical scientific research process and research results in China and the UK are all carried out simultaneously. In addition to the mutual visits of scientific research and medical professionals, there will be an online-meeting every two weeks to discuss the latest research progress and plans, so that the research process can be exchanged and the results can be shared.
In May of this year, the "Sichuan University-Oxford University Huaxi Gastrointestinal Cancer Center", a scientific research cooperation platform was jointly established by the University of Oxford in the UK and WCH of Sichuan University. This conference is an important step in substantive cooperation between the two parties since the center was formally established.
