On Nov. 24, Dr. Deng Xiangbing, a member of the 23rd Chinese (Sichuan) medical team in Mozambique from Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery of WCH cooperated with Professor Atílio, director of the Department of Surgery at Maputo Central Hospital of Mozambique, completed the first case of esophagectomy combining with laparoscopic stomach mobilization in Mozambican history.
The 23rd China (Sichuan) medical team in Mozambique has been devoting themselves to improve the skills of local doctors. WCH doctors such as Dr. Liao Banghua and Dr. Deng Xiangbing, were planning to build the first clinical skill training center for Mozambique in Maputo Central Hospital which is cooperated with WCH based on the supports from the “cooperation mechanism construction project of counterpart hospitals for international aid medical teams program” of National Health Commission of PRC. The minimally invasive surgical technology training is iconic in this program. Up to now, the first minimally invasive technology training course has already been launched, and 3 theoretic lessons and more than 130 hours of simulation exercises have been carried out. Except the routine clinical work in the third Surgical Department, Dr. Deng also assisted the Second Surgical Department, the Department of Colorectal Surgery, and the Department of Thoracic Surgery in Maputo Central Hospital to carry out minimally invasive surgeries and improve laparoscopic surgery skills of local surgeons. He also set up a laparoscopic communication cooperation group in Mozambique to spread the knowledge of minimally invasive surgery.
