The 18th European Society for Emergency
Medicine (EUSEM) Congress was successfully held in Copenhagen recently, Denmark,
attracting 3,780 emergency medicine experts from 86 countries and regions
worldwide. The congress focused on hot topics such as pre-hospital emergency
care, intensive care, disaster response, and artificial intelligence. Led by
Professor Cao Yu, the director of WCH's Emergency Department and deputy
director of the Emergency Medicine Committee of the Chinese Medical
Association, the team participated in this grand event and showcased multiple
innovative research achievements in the field of emergency medicine.
Invited by the congress, Professor Cao Yu
co-hosted a roundtable discussion on the latest advances in Sino-European
emergency medicine with internationally renowned experts such as EUSEM's
current president, Professor Robert Leach, and former president, Professor
Abdelouahab Bellou. During the discussion, Professor Cao Yu reviewed the
40-year development of emergency medicine in China and highlighted significant
progress made by WCH in building emergency systems, applying artificial
intelligence, and utilizing big data analysis. She shared breakthrough
achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of acute poisoning, especially in
rapid toxin detection technologies such as GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, under the topic
"R&D Progress on Acute Poisoning." In the special discussion on
"Global Emergency Medical Influence and Strategy," Professor Cao Yu
explored how to collaborate with various forces to efficiently enhance
emergency medical services within China's unique socio-cultural and policy
context. The young physician team from her department also actively
participated in the congress with outstanding presentations and poster
displays.
The EUSEM Congress is one of the highly prestigious and academically influential international conferences in the field of emergency medicine worldwide, providing a vital platform for in-depth exchanges among top global emergency medicine experts. The active participation and excellent performance of WCH's emergency team not only demonstrated the professional strength of West China in the field of emergency medicine but also opened a new chapter for Sino-European exchange and cooperation in emergency medicine.
