WCH dispatches expert team to earthquake-stricken Shigatse, Tibet

At 9:05 AM on January 7, 2025, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Shigatse, Tibet. In response to an urgent directive from the National Health Commission's Medical Emergency Department, West China Hospital promptly assembled an emergency medical rescue team, led by Executive Vice President Liu Lunxu, to provide guidance and treatment for earthquake victims in Shigatse. At 2 PM that afternoon, the team was seen off by the hospital's Party Secretary Cheng Yongzhong, President Luo Fengming, and staff from relevant departments.

The medical rescue team consists of six experts, including Executive Vice President Liu Lunxu, who is also the head of the national emergency work expert group in thoracic surgery; Associate Professor He Qian from the Department of Emergency Medicine; Associate Professor Hu Chenggong from the Department of Critical Care Medicine; Associate Professor Zou Chang from the Center of Trauma Medicine; Associate Professor Zhang Si from the Department of Neurosurgery; and Assistant Researcher Dong Xiaoyang from the Emergency Management Office.

At noon on the 7th, medical experts Jiang Yaowen (Associate Chief Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine), Zhong Huanhuan, and Deji, who were previously stationed in Lhasa, Tibet, set off for Changsu Township in Dingri County, Shigatse, with a mobile CT vehicle to carry out medical rescue operations for the earthquake disaster.
