The department has a total floor area of over 17,000 square meters, with 419 approved beds (including 71 infusion chairs) and nearly 400 specialized medical and nursing staff.

Clinical Capacity & Services

Through the integration of networked emergency resources, the department has established a coordinated pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency care model characterized by “immediate response upon call, and admission upon ambulance boarding.”

Information platform-based green channels have been developed for key conditions, including:

  • Chest Pain Center
  • Stroke Center
  • Trauma Center
  • Rapid Access for Gastrointestinal Bleeding

The department provides advanced comprehensive resuscitation and critical care technologies, including:

  • Multidimensional management of post-cardiac arrest syndrome
  • Sequential pre-hospital and in-hospital extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Bedside fiberoptic bronchoscopy
  • Comprehensive bedside ultrasound assessment
  • Ultrasound-guided invasive procedures for high-risk patients
  • Bedside blood purification
  • Early standardized treatment for acute paraquat poisoning
  • Bundled treatment for wasp stings

The department treats an average of over 250,000 patients annually, including more than 60,000 critically ill patients receiving emergency care.

Emergency Response & System Development

The Department of Emergency Medicine actively participates in major public health emergency responses, including:

  • SARS
  • Wenchuan Earthquake
  • Jiuzhaigou Earthquake
  • COVID-19 pandemic

It contributed to the establishment of the world’s first (non-military) Type III International Emergency Medical Team certified by the World Health Organization (WHO).

A helicopter landing pad has been constructed on the rooftop of West China Tianfu Hospital, supporting the development of an intelligent three-dimensional emergency medical rescue system.
