On Jan 17th, a giant academic publisher Elsevier officially published the List of the 2018 Most Cited Chinese Researchers, into which 1,899 scholars from 229 universities and colleges, research institutions, and enterprises in China were selected. Five scholars from our hospital (27 from Sichuan University) were selected, an increase of two over the previous year.
To launch the 2018 List of Most Cited Chinese Researchers, the methods and standards developed by Shanghai Ranking Education Information Consulting Co., Ltd were employed, and the results were made through systematic analysis on the worldwide influence of Chinese scholars based on cited data.
Elsevier’s database has provided data support and technological realization for the research on this list. Scopus, the largest literature abstract and citation database, has collected more than 20,000 peer review journals, including more than 500 kinds of Chinese journals. In the literature collected in Scopus’ database, there are more than 3 million addresses of the institutions from China (mainland China), and over 4 million author names.
The total citings of the Most Cited Scholars as the first author or corresponding author were at the top ranking among the Chinese researchers in their respective disciplines (mainland China). Such listing means that the scientist has acquired worldwide influence in the field of his/her research, and that his/her scientific result has made a great contribution to the development of such fields.
