Prof. Richard Hobbs of Oxford University visits WCH/WCSM


On July 25th, Prof. Richard Hobbs, Director of General Medicine, Oxford University led a team to visit WCH/WCSM. Executive Vice President Wan Xuehong, along with representatives of departments such as Gastroenterology Department, General Medicine, Neurology Department, Biological Big Data Center, Evidence-based Medicine Center, West China Medicine Transfer Center and International Office, met with foreign guests in the meeting room 8 of Administration Building.

Executive Vice President Wan warmly welcomed the visit of Prof. Richard Hobbs and his delegation. He introduced the historical background and development of WCH, noting that WCH always adheres to the historical tradition of opening-up and cooperation. He hoped that both sides could enhance mutual understanding and find out potential cooperation opportunities through this visit.

Prof. Richard Hobbs delivered a report entitled “Applied Digital Health for Better Patient Care", explaining the development of Oxford University in the field of general medicine and intelligent medical treatment. Digital medical treatment is the development trend of medical industry, which will bring great changes to people's lives, he stressed.

At the meeting, experts from both sides also exchanged views on topics such as digital medical treatment, general medicine training, scientific research and transformation of research achievements. Prof. Richard Hobbs and his delegation also visited the hospital museum and Tele-Medicine Center in WCH.

About Prof. Hobbs:

Richard Hobbs is Nuffield Professor of Primary Care at the University of Oxford, and Head of the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. He has served a decade as National Director of the National Institute for Health Research’s School for Primary Care Research and was Director of the NHS Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) Review panel from 2005-09. He has served many national and international scientific and research funding boards in UK, Ireland, Canada, and WHO, including the BHF Council, British Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, and the ESC Council for Cardiovascular Primary Care. He currently chairs the European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, a WONCA Special Interest Group.
