At 8:00 a.m. Oct. 27, WCH held an overseas celebration of its 130th anniversary in No.3 Meeting Room of the Administration Building. Cui Zhiwei, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, Yao Leye, vice president of Sichuan University, Li Weimin, president of WCH, and Luo Fengming, executive deputy party secretary of WCH, attended the event and delivered a speech respectively. Hu Jiankun, vice president of WCH, hosted the event. More than 60 people, including Peng Hao, counsellor of the Consulate-general of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, Madam Marion Walker, granddaughter of Omar Kilborn, one of the main founders of West China Hospital, as well as WCH alumni in Canada, participated in the event online.
WCH was originated from Renji and Cunren Hospitals opened by a Canadian doctor Omar Kilborn in Chengdu in 1892. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the hospital was renamed as “Affiliated Hospital of Sichuan Medical College” and “First Affiliated Hospital of West China University of Medical Sciences.” In 2000, Sichuan University merged with West China University of Medical Sciences, with the new hospital renamed “West China Hospital, Sichuan University.”
