The
25th World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) was held in Singapore from 3rd to 8th
July, attracting dermatologists, researchers, enterprises, and journalists from
all over the world. The conference aimed to share the latest breakthroughs in
Dermatology.
Known
as the "Olympics" of Dermatology, the WCD is held every four years.
This year, it attracted over 10,000 participants, including approximately 1,000
Chinese dermatologists. This provided a unique opportunity for domestic
dermatologists and academic societies to enhance academic exchange.
Under
the leadership of Professor Jiang Xian, the Department of Dermatology &
Venerology of West China Hospital, Sichuan University sent a delegation of 9 to
the congress. Four of them served as the chair/co-chair of the congress, and
five delivered presentations, with several e-posters displayed. Additionally,
Professor Ran Yuping attended as an ambassador of the WCD, and Dr. Shucheng Huidi
was awarded the WCD Rising Star Scholarship. The department showcased multiple
subspecialties, including disfiguring diseases, infectious diseases, immune
diseases, tumor pathology, dermatologic surgery, medical cosmetology, and
cosmetics. This made it the largest dermatology delegation from Sichuan
Province, demonstrating the hospital's potential for dermatological
development.
Professor
Ran Yuping not only served as the ambassador of WCD but also chaired two
sub-sessions and delivered a report. He also participated in media interviews,
provided guidance to a doctoral candidate, and served as an abstract reviewer
for the congress.
Professor
Jiang Xian, as co-chair of the academic session on "Dermatological
surgery/Wound and skin healing", presided over and participated in the
academic discussion.
Professor
Li Wei chaired the "Psoriasis" session.
Associate
Professor Xue Siliang served as co-chair of the "Nail Surgery and Nail
Pathology" session and delivered a case sharing presentation. He also had
a heated discussion on nail surgery methods with experts from around the world.
The
presence of many young doctors from the Department of Dermatology at this
congress was also noteworthy. They presented their research results and shared
interesting cases.
Dr.
Hua Wei presented the academic research results on the itching induced by
Cowhage in sensitive skin and the comparison with the current sensory threshold
measurement method in the session on Pruritus and dysaesthesias.
Dr.
Shucheng Huidi delivered an oral presentation on titled “Overexpression and
Potential Roles of Midkine via Regulation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor
A in Psoriasis”.
Dr.
Zhou Xingli presented a special report on “Efficacy of Human Urine-Derived Stem
Cells in a Mouse Model of Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa”.
Dr.
Hua Sirui shared the wonderful cases of “Large adenoid seborrheic keratosis of
the vulva treated with photodynamic therapy”.
Overall,
attending the WCD allowed us to experience the latest research progress in
Dermatology and establish connections with colleagues from around the world. By
showcasing our excellent research results and engaging in meaningful
discussions, the department have taken a significant step forward in building a
world-class discipline.
