On the morning of March 15, West China Hospital (WCH) held a ceremony in the Third Conference Room of the Houde Building to appoint Professor John D. Denstedt, a globally recognized urologist and the President of Endourology Society, as a visiting professor. WCH’s Vice President Wang Kunjie, the Urology Department and the International Office, as well as representatives of young talents, totaling more than 30 people, attended the event.
In his speech, Professor Li Hong, Director of the Urology Research Institute of WCH, warmly welcomed Professor Denstedt. Vice President Wang Kunjie expressed the hope to further strengthen cooperation in medical, educational, and research aspects. He also read out the decision to appoint Professor Denstedt as a visiting professor and presented him with the letter of appointment along with Director Dong Qiang from the Urology Department.
Professor Denstedt has visited WCH multiple times for academic exchanges and has been invited to participate in the Southwest Minimally Invasive Urology New Technology Forum on several occasions. During this visit, Professor Denstedt fully recognized the development of WCH in recent years, highly praised the outstanding achievements of the Urology Department in research and clinical practice and expressed his willingness to establish closer connections with the urology team to promote academic exchanges and international cooperation. At the meeting, young doctors from the Urology Department engaged in enthusiastic discussions with Professor Denstedt on cutting-edge issues in urology.
Professor Denstedt is Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and the former Chair and Director of the Department of Surgery at Western University. He currently serves as the President of Endourology Society. Professor Denstedt is an internationally renowned expert in urology, having authored over 300 articles and publications and serving as a visiting professor at more than 400 universities in 60 countries. He has held editorial positions in eight major urology journals and has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Endourology, enjoying an outstanding reputation in the international urology field.
