From March 7th to 8th, 2024, Professors
Mark Rosenfield from New York State University, James S Wolffsohn from Aston
University in the UK, and Stephen James Vincent from Queensland University of
Technology in Australia were appointed as visiting professors in the Department
of Optometry and Visual Science at West China Hospital.
Mark Rosenfield, a professor at the College
of Optometry at New York State University, specializes in binocular vision,
digital eye strain, and the measurement and etiology of refractive errors. He
currently serves as the editor-in-chief of Ophthalmic and Physiological
Optics and ranks among the top 100 researchers in the field of optometry
worldwide.
James S Wolffsohn is a professor of
optometry and the dean of the School of Optometry at Aston University in the
UK. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer of the International Myopia
Institute. His research interests include contact lenses, especially the
orthokeratology lenses, low vision, and ocular tear film physiology. He serves
as the deputy editor of the journal BMJ Ophthalmology and sits on the
editorial boards of several professional journals.
Stephen James Vincent is a professor at the
School of Optometry and Vision Science at Queensland University of Technology
in Australia, where he also serves as the academic research director. He is a
senior member of renowned international societies such as the International
Society for Contact Lens Research, the Scleral Lens Education Society, the
British Contact Lens Association, and the Optometry Association of Australia.
He acts as the associate editor of Contact Lens & Anterior Eye and Clinical
Experimental Optometry, among other professional journals.
During the University Immersion Program
(UIP), these three visiting professors will deliver lectures to students
majoring in optometry at WCH. Their involvement will strengthen the faculty
resources of our optometry department and inject fresh blood and international
expertise into the discipline and profession.
