On July 3rd, the 2024 International Summer Camp at West China Hospital held a "Fun Clinical Skills Challenge" on the 4th floor of the Houde Building, where international and domestic medical students engaged in a friendly competition of clinical skills.
The camp participants first visited the Multimodal Surgical Skills Training and Innovation Center at West China Hospital, where instructors from the Simulation Center demonstrated the practical application of the Da Vinci robot and domestic surgical robots in animal experiments.
Subsequently, four faculty members from the Surgery Department, Doctors Zhou Peizhi, Shen Chaoyong, Zou Chang, and Wang Ru, guided the campers in groups on how to operate the competition items. The campers participated in laparoscopic bean picking and silicone suturing competitions in teams of two, resulting in 7 first prizes and 14 second prizes.
In addition, the campers experienced a virtual standardized patient consultation software independently developed by the Simulation Center.
This event not only trained the students’ clinical skills, such as wound suturing and laparoscopic operation, which are essential for medical professionals, but also emphasized the importance of teamwork. Through interesting and challenging competition items, the event aimed to promote exchange and cooperation between Chinese and foreign students and cultivate their pursuit of excellence in medical skills.
During the summer camp, the campers also visited the West China Hospital’s History Museum and the Sichuan University Museum, gaining an in-depth understanding of the century-old development history of the hospital and university and the profound history and cultural heritage of Chinese culture. They also visited the Huaxi Campus and Wangjiang Campus to experience the campus scenery.
