On November 7th, Professor Mans Svensson, President of Jönköping University in Sweden, led a delegation to visit West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, as well as relevant leaders from our hospital’s Rehabilitation Medicine Center and the International Office, participated in the exchange.

Professor Wei Quan, Vice Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions and Director of Rehabilitation Medicine Center, warmly welcomed the delegation. He noted that WCH’s Rehabilitation Medicine has topped the Fudan Ranking nationwide for two consecutive years and is currently focusing on building an international highland for rehabilitation medicine. He expressed his expectation for precise alignment and pragmatic cooperation between the two sides.
President Mans Svensson thanked our hospital for the warm reception and pointed out that both China and Sweden are facing the challenge of an aging population, which presents the best opportunity for win-win cooperation. Jönköping has a strong industrial foundation and a stable ranking in the top three for innovation in Sweden, with many multinational companies based there. He expressed his hope to establish cooperation with West China Hospital in multiple fields during this visit to China. He stated that the university has always adhered to the teaching and research principle of “People First” and is willing to complement our strengths and share the future together.

During the discussion session, the two sides had in-depth exchanges and reached a preliminary consensus on joint research and development in prosthetics and orthotics, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and co-building a summer school and short-term courses.
