WCH hosts two national-level foreign aid training programs

From August 7 to 12, 2026, West China Hospital, Sichuan University (WCH) hosted “2026 Human Resource Development Cooperation Programs of Ministry of Commerce”, including two foreign aid training programs under the coordination of the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of the National Health Commission. The programs were the "Seminar on China's Appropriate Experience in Health Development for Belt and Road Countries" and the "Training Course on Medical Technology and Equipment Use for China-Built Hospitals in African Countries." A total of 50 health administrators, researchers, and clinical professionals from “Belt and Road” countries and Chinese-aided hospitals in Africa participated in an immersive on-site training program in Chengdu.

At the opening ceremony of the foreign aid training programs, Professor Luo Fengming, President of WCH, delivered a welcome address. He introduced the century-long history and comprehensive strengths of WCH, and noted that under the “Belt and Road” Initiative, WCH has established in-depth collaborations with numerous medical institutions and health authorities across Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America. He expressed his hope that participants would not only acquire advanced medical skills but also experience the cultural richness of Chengdu.

Representatives of international participants from the Radiology and Clinical Engineering departments then shared their learning goals and expressed their determination to bring the knowledge gained back to their home countries to serve their communities.

The training programs adhered to a core principle of "bringing China's stories to the field for direct observation and hands-on learning," utilizing an immersive, on-site teaching approach. Participants visited WCH clinical departments and frontline care settings, gaining first-hand exposure to modern hospital operations and quality management systems, and experiencing the clinical application and effectiveness of Chinese-made high-end medical equipment in real-world settings.
