The 20th World Congress of the
International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) was successfully
held in Edinburgh, UK, from September 22nd to 24th. The conference focused on
the epidemiology, molecular mechanisms, diagnostics, and novel therapies of
esophageal diseases. A nine-member team from West China Hospital's Thoracic
Surgery Department, led by Professor Chen Longqi, attended the prestigious
event.
At the congress, the team presented on
various topics including clinical research, basic research, translational
research, and new clinical technologies in esophageal cancer, showcasing our
hospital's innovative and forward-looking research achievements in the field,
which sparked widespread interest and discussion among attending experts.
Additionally, eight of our research findings were displayed as posters during
the conference.
Professor Chen Longqi also chaired the ISDE
China Special Session - CSDE Symposium, themed "Clinical Trials for
Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in East Asia: Perspectives and Lessons
Learned from Principal Investigators." The session featured in-depth
sharing and discussion on the latest treatment advances and original clinical
trial results for esophageal cancer in East Asia, becoming a highlight of the
congress and garnering significant attention from scholars worldwide.
Since its establishment in 1979, the
International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) has been dedicated
to fostering scientific and medical knowledge exchange in the field of
esophageal diseases and encouraging basic and clinical research. Our Thoracic
Surgery Department has been actively involved in ISDE activities since its
inception, sharing and exchanging our cutting-edge research findings and
surgical techniques with international peers, thereby enhancing the hospital's
global influence. Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen international
exchanges and cooperation, striving for new breakthroughs and innovations in
the perioperative treatment of esophageal cancer, basic medical science,
translational medicine, technological innovation, and multicenter clinical
research.
