In a bid to strengthen collaboration with leading international medical institutions and promote the internationalization of academic disciplines, a delegation from the Cleveland Clinic, led by Professor Howard Goldman, was invited to visit West China Hospital on November 7. The two sides held in-depth discussions on establishing sister department partnership in urology and further cooperation. The meeting was chaired by WCH’s Vice President Wang Kunjie, with attendance from President Luo Fengming, representatives from the Urology Department, Graduate Department, and International Office.

 

President Luo Fengming extended a warm welcome to Professor Goldman and his team, emphasizing that achieving "world-class status for West China Medicine" is a core goal of the hospital. He noted that establishing high-level, effective international cooperation with top global institutions aligns with the vision of West China Hospital. The Cleveland Clinic is globally renowned for its exceptional medical technology and innovative research. Since 2017, West China Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic have conducted personnel exchanges, academic lectures, surgical demonstrations, and multidisciplinary team case discussions in fields such as urology, anesthesia, and orthopedics, fostering a deep friendship. The establishment of a sister department in urology is expected to further deepen cooperation and fulfill shared visions and missions. Professor Goldman expressed his anticipation for future collaboration, hoping to continue strengthening academic exchanges and resource sharing in the field of urology to contribute more significantly to global urological development.

 

Following the discussions, Vice President Wang Kunjie presented Professor Goldman with a visiting professor appointment, and the Urology Department gifted a crystal plaque to the Cleveland Clinic, officially marking the partnership between the two urology departments.

 

During the visit, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on academic research and clinical diagnostics, discussing the latest research findings and clinical applications in urology. The urology team at West China Hospital demonstrated their leading experience in surgical techniques and patient management, which was highly praised by the Cleveland Clinic experts.
